Chicago North Shore wins Women’s Open Championship in tight final

North Shore Green (Chicago, IL) took home the Women’s Open Cup Championship in thrilling fashion and only giving up a single try in 5 matches. Having gone undefeated in pool play, North Shore Green defeated their second side 19-0 in the semi-finals to earn a spot in the championship.

On the other side of the bracket, KC Jazz (Kansas City, MO) also cruised through their pool and semi-final matches without giving up a single point. As second-seed in the playoffs, they defeated the Dragons 33-0.

The championship was a tight match between two quality sides. At the final whistle, North Shore edged out KC 12-7. The win is the first successful defense of their 2018 title and North Shore’s fourth win at the Lakefront 7s since 2009.

In the Plate competition, the Hawkeyes (Davenport, IA) defeated WWRFC — the other 2018 Women’s Champion (Madison, WI) — and debutantes Big Duck Energy to claim the championship.
