Top 5 reasons to register early for the Lakefront 7s

Register early for the Lakefront 7s

Just picture it — a gorgeous summer day by the lake with Johnsonville brats, beverages, and a park full of your friends playing rugby. For most players and fans, the Lakefront 7s Rugby Tournament and Festival is the ideal way to spend a Saturday. But since we sell out every year, we always have to turn away teams that did not register early for the Lakefront 7s.

There is no worse feeling than being left out, and that’s especially true for the Lakefront 7s which is unique in many ways compared other sevens events. So here are the top 5 reasons to register early for the Lakefront 7s.

How to qualify for the USA Rugby National Club 7s Championship by competing in just one tournament

Stephen Lewis on USA Rugby National Club 7s Championship

USA Rugby published a press release yesterday detailing changes in it’s club 7s competition format. The article lists updates to the USA Rugby National Club 7s Championship qualifying events that take place across the country and are used to select the teams that will compete to be the top rugby 7s team in the country.

Some of the changes include:

  • Simplified eligibility rules for non-citizens
  • Increased roster size of up to 13 players including one “traveling reserve player”
  • Limiting qualifying events in any geographic/competitive region to between two and four events
  • More flexible seeding among geographic/competitive regions
  • An event certification process to be administered by USA Rugby’s 7s working group

But perhaps the biggest change announced in the press release is the creation of “Open Qualifiers” for the men’s USA Rugby National Club 7s Championship. Two events, held in Eastern and Western parts of the country, will serve to identify two wild card teams as the winners will automatically qualify for the USA Rugby National Club 7s Championship. Lakefront 7s team entry fee can be spread over 4 payments

fiji commemorative 7 dollar rugby 7s note

In our annual satisfaction survey, respondents told us that one of the barriers to registering early for the Lakefront 7s rugby tournament was coming up with a lump-sum payment before all the brackets had filled up. To help with this problem, this year we’re making payment of the Lakefront 7s team entry fee more flexible by offering an installment plan.

The installment plan splits the team registration fee into 4 equal parts. The first payment is charged when you purchase a ticket for your team with a debit or credit card. The final three payments are then processed (using the same card) on April 1st, May 1st, and June 1st. (more…)

2018 Wisconsin Rugby Sevens Calendar (including Tens and Tag rugby)

2018 Wisconsin Rugby Sevens Calendar

Even though it’s still winter, planning has already begun for Spring and Summer rugby in the badger state. This is especially true for the rugby 7s, rugby 10s and tag rugby events that demand a lot more organization than a single 15s match would require. To help teams prepare, we’ve reached out to event organizers to put together this Wisconsin rugby sevens calendar.

This calendar includes both traditional summer tournaments as well as collegiate and high school series. Relevant contact information for each event or series is also provided.

We will continue to update this Wisconsin rugby sevens calendar as information becomes available (especially for Fall 7s events which are still a ways off). And if you have any additions or modifications to the Wisconsin rugby sevens calendar please do drop us a note! (more…)

Milwaukee food drive goal exceeded by local rugby tournament

2017 food drive donation

We’d just like to say a big THANK YOU to everyone who participated in our Milwaukee food drive for the Hunger Task Force at the 2017 Lakefront 7s rugby festival on Saturday.

We blew away our 200-pound goal and collected 665 pounds of food!

In addition to the people who donated items in Saturday, we’re grateful for both generous volunteers — Ryan Duklas and Kurt Kinderfather in particular — as well as our corporate partners below.

TMJ4 News: “Rugby is for everyone”

Local TV station TMJ4 visited the Lakefront 7s rugby tournament and festival today to checkout our the 35th anniversary of the event. In addition to some great team footage, TMJ4 caught up with tournament director Erik Schleicher who shared his thoughts on how rugby is for everyone.

It’s not as rough as everybody says it is.

Rugby is for everybody. The little guy. The big guy. The hipster guy. The cool guy. The fat guy. We don’t discriminate.

Indeed, you’ll find all shapes, sizes, and ages at the Lakefront 7s festival.

Thanks to TMJ4 for making the trip to the Lakefront!
