Following our earlier report that the Titletown 10s rugby tournament in Green Bay had been cancelled for 2019, we now report that another popular tournament in the state is also making changes to their summer rugby calendar.
The Milwaukee Black & Blue (pictured above) has informed lakefront7s.com that it is moving both the date and location of its annual event the Lumberjack 10s. Held at the end of July in Minocqua since 1999, the 2019 installment will now be played on August 3rd in Waukesha at Minooka Park.
“In order to help us gain momentum going into 2020 for our clubs 40th anniversary, we moved the venue and date to draw more old boys to help,” said Tom Zientek, president of the Milwaukee Black & Blue RFC.
The change in venue for the 20th anniversary of the Lumberjack 10s should also attract more teams as Waukesha is a lot closer to Wisconsin’s two largest rugby centers — Milwaukee and Madison — than Minocqua.
The change in date may also be favorable as no other rugby events are currently scheduled in the state for that weekend. The inaugural Legends 10s is scheduled for the last Saturday of August (the traditional date for Lumberjack 10s), and the Memorial 10s (formerly the Stu Daily 10s) has been pushed back a week to August 10th.
