Rugby enthusiasts, mark your calendars! The Midwest Rugby Union (MRU) has announced the dates and locations for the highly anticipated 2025 Midwest Rugby 7s Series. The redesigned series promises to deliver exciting rugby action while reducing costs and increasing participation across the region. Here’s everything you need to know about the upcoming series.
Revamped Series Structure
In an effort to streamline operations and provide a better experience for both clubs and participants, the MRU is taking a new approach to the 2025 Summer 7s Series. Unlike previous years, the Union will run all three events directly, eliminating the need for host clubs. This change aims to reduce costs for both the Union and participating clubs while ensuring a consistent and professional experience at every event.
The three events will be centrally located within the MRU’s geographic footprint, making them more accessible for teams throughout the region. The dates and locations for the 2025 Midwest Rugby 7s Series are as follows:
- June 28th – Lansing, MI
- July 12th – Lemont, IL
- July 26th – Elkhart, IN (Championship)
These central locations will allow for easier travel and more teams to participate, fostering a larger, more competitive environment.
Three Levels of Competition
To accommodate teams of different skill levels and provide a more inclusive competition, the MRU has expanded the competition categories for 2025. The series will feature three levels of competition:
- Midwest Premiership: This is the traditional National Championship-qualifying pathway. Teams competing at this level will aim to earn their spot in the National Championship tournament and showcase their skills against the best teams in the region.
- Midwest Cup: This high-level competition is designed for competitive teams that are building towards national competition. It offers a chance for strong teams to test themselves against Premiership-level teams and gain valuable experience.
- Open: This category is meant for organized member clubs looking to play high-level 7s rugby in a professional environment. While it’s not a social-level competition, it provides a platform for teams to develop their skills and compete in a structured setting.
By offering multiple levels of competition, the MRU hopes to encourage greater participation and provide opportunities for teams at all stages of development to play in a high-quality environment.
Registration Information
Teams interested in participating in the 2025 Midwest Rugby 7s Series can register for individual events or for the entire series. One-off registrations will be available at a cost of $450 per event. For teams looking to commit to the full series, there is a discounted registration fee of $1,200 for all three events (equivalent to $400 per event).
This flexible registration structure is designed to make participation more affordable and accessible, allowing teams to tailor their involvement based on their budgets and competitive goals.
Looking Ahead
The MRU’s redesigned approach to the 2025 Midwest Rugby 7s Series reflects a commitment to fostering growth and development in the rugby community. By reducing costs, centralizing locations, and expanding the competition structure, the Union is working to create a more inclusive and competitive environment for all participants.
Whether you’re aiming for a shot at the National Championship or looking to build your team’s experience in high-level competition, the 2025 Midwest Rugby 7s Series promises to deliver thrilling action and memorable moments on the pitch.
