Milwaukee – The Milwaukee Rugby Sevens Association announced today that Rugby Athletic will be the exclusive apparel and merchandise partner for the Lakefront 7s, the largest summer rugby event in the USA.
Held in Milwaukee on the shores of Lake Michigan, the Lakefront 7s is a local sporting tradition in the Midwest and attracts an average of 150 rugby teams to Veteran’s Park for one day of competition. This year, the event will be held on June 27. The partnership will shift all apparel-related activities — including design, production, sales and distribution — to Rugby Athletic.
“Chris and his team at Rugby Athletic have a lot of event experience.” said Victor Drover, Director of the Lakefront 7s. “With the growth we’ve experienced in the last few years, the time was right to bring in a professional vendor to allow the organizing committee and our volunteers from the Milwaukee rugby community to focus on making the event enjoyable for all.”
This year, the Lakefront 7s celebrates its 33rd anniversary. Having been held consecutively since 1982, over 2000 teams and 20,000 athletes have participated. Having traditionally supported rugby for high school and college students and adults, the event expanded to youth (tag) rugby in 2012 and has been steadily adding fields each year for this rapidly-growing group.
“This is such an amazing event and we are so excited to be involved,” Rugby Athletic’s Chris Babiash said. “We really want to help add to this tournament’s success and feel that helping build and promote a consistent brand is just the first step. We can’t wait to see where we can take it during the next few years!”
Spectators can purchase free tickets for the event on the official website. Additionally, paid registration remains open for participants. Teams that register by May 1 can receive a $25 early-bird discount.
About the Lakefront 7s
The Lakefront 7s is a seven-a-side and tag rugby event held annually since 1982 by the Milwaukee Rugby Sevens Association. The event is 100% volunteer-staffed by local area teams including the Milwaukee Barbarians (Men’s Rugby) and Milwaukee Scylla (Women’s Rugby).
The Lakefront 7s is held at Veteran’s Park during the Summerfest celebrations in late June or early July. It features six adult and three youth pitches with beautiful lakefront exposure and sweeping views of Milwaukee’s skyline.
Within walking distance of many of Milwaukee’s finest attractions and it’s historic Third Ward, the Lakefront 7s is an ideal summer destination for both rugby athletes and fans alike, and all proceeds support local rugby.
