Back To The 80s

We’re going “back to the 80s” to celebrate 40 years of Lakefront 7s

To celebrate 40 years of Lakefront 7s, we go “back to the 80s”. Will you be joining us?

How we got here

In 1982, a few brave teams came to Milwaukee to play in a new rugby sevens tournament near Lake Michigan. Called the Lakefront 7s, the event was organized by local rugger “Papa” Joe Kloiber of the West Side Harlequins.

Year after year, Papa Joe kept organizing the Lakefront 7s until he passed the responsibility to other club members. After 40 years and thousands of volunteer hours, it has grown into the largest summer rugby event in the country.

On June 24, 2023 we will celebrate 40 years of Lakefront 7s (excepting the lost 2020 event due to COVID-19).

2023 theme: Back to the 80s

Back To The 80s

You can help us celebrate our 40 years of Lakefront 7s by embracing the 2023 theme “back to the 80s”.

When your team, friends and family attend the Lakefront 7s, let your creativity run wild. Costumes, uniforms, hair styles, and even the music you play at your team tent are all ripe areas to express yourself and celebrate the occasion.

Miami Vice, Olivia Newton-John, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Ronald Reagan, Madonna, Band Aid, Pac Man … you get the idea!

So bust out the white Armani suits and pastel threads for your best Crockett and Tubbs impersonation. Or fishnets and shoulder pad jackets. Heck, bust out the 80s boombox you have laying around with some old cassette tapes of maybe, Def Leppard, maybe Motley Crue as June 24th will be rocking (hair metal style) at the lakefront in Milwaukee.

A full day of head-banging 🤟 madness with the friends, food, rugby, and gorgeous lakefront setting. The 40th annual Lakefront 7s is only a month away, and we can’t wait to see your 80s theme shine!
