After being runners-up two years in a row, the South Side Irish swooped in and finally claimed a spot on the top of the 2024 men’s super social division.
South Side Irish has been a strong team throughout many Lakefront 7s tournaments. They were able to leave in good spirits today as they took home a trophy. With four groups of teams battling it out for the championship, it wasn’t an easy day for the South Side Irish and other super social division teams.
Boksprings RFC was in it to win it as they challenged South Side Irish in their first match of the day, but the Irish stayed strong and won 28-14. In South Side Irish’s second match, Black and Blue RFC produced three tries, but it didn’t stop the Irish from winning the match 21-15.
After two tough games, South Side Irish vamped up their defense for the battle against the MURFC Old Boys and won 19-10.
For the semifinals, the matches continued to be just as intense as the rain. South Side Irish went up against the Drinkin Park in a close match while the Kraken RFC went up against 2022’s winners, the B-52’s. Drinkin Park wasn’t going to give up easy as they scored two tries and conversions agains the South Side Irish. South Side pushed through and scored another try against the Drinkin Park ending the game at 19-15.
In the championships, South Side Irish was set to go up against the Kraken RFC as they beat the B-52’s in the semifinals 28-0. In an unplanned event, the South Side Irish won against the Kraken RFC by forfeit, leaving a swift taking of the 2024 men’s super social division title!
