Strong interest in High School rugby sevens

strong interest in high school rugby sevens

We are happy to report that the interest in High School rugby sevens in Milwaukee is higher than normal this year and brackets are filling up faster than normal this year.

Typically, most schools wait for their Spring season to end before registering for the Lakefront 7s. And in past years, the girls High School rugby sevens bracket has been in question until the last few days of the event.

This year however, the High School Boys bracket is nearly 50% full (7/12 spots remaining). Interestingly, two international sides are registered: Consett RFC from the UK and the Mystical Canucks, a joint team consisting of players from Mystic River in Boston and Rugby Québec in Canada.

And the 2017 Champions — Eagan Rugby (Eagan, MN, USA) — are back to defend their title.

The High School Girls bracket already has two teams registered with 6/8 spots remaining. Iowa’s all-star team the Hawkettes are registered along with first-time participants the Harriers from Hamilton High School in Sussex, WI. (more…)

What is the insurance or CIPP requirement to play summer rugby in America?

what is the cipp requirement to play rugby

Is an active USA Rugby membership — formerly known as CIPP — needed to play summer rugby 7s? For the majority of players in the US the short answer to the CIPP requirement question is: it’s probably not needed.

Before we continue, let’s make it very, very clear that everyone involved in any rugby match— from the referee to the players to the coaches — at any time of year should carry an active health insurance policy. There is simply no exception to this rule. Ever.

In contrast to health insurance, liability insurance protects the owner of a field, park, or stadium against damages/law suits. Providing a liability insurance certificate to the field/park/stadium owner is widely considered a prerequisite for holding a rugby match or tournament that is sanctioned by USA Rugby. This includes all league matches for example.

If everyone participating in a sanctioned match has a USA Rugby membership, then they are eligible for a free liability certificate that can be used to secure the venue. In this case, the CIPP requirement equates to venue access. (more…)

Top 5 reasons to register early for the Lakefront 7s

Register early for the Lakefront 7s

Just picture it — a gorgeous summer day by the lake with Johnsonville brats, beverages, and a park full of your friends playing rugby. For most players and fans, the Lakefront 7s Rugby Tournament and Festival is the ideal way to spend a Saturday. But since we sell out every year, we always have to turn away teams that did not register early for the Lakefront 7s.

There is no worse feeling than being left out, and that’s especially true for the Lakefront 7s which is unique in many ways compared other sevens events. So here are the top 5 reasons to register early for the Lakefront 7s.

How to qualify for the USA Rugby National Club 7s Championship by competing in just one tournament

Stephen Lewis on USA Rugby National Club 7s Championship

USA Rugby published a press release yesterday detailing changes in it’s club 7s competition format. The article lists updates to the USA Rugby National Club 7s Championship qualifying events that take place across the country and are used to select the teams that will compete to be the top rugby 7s team in the country.

Some of the changes include:

  • Simplified eligibility rules for non-citizens
  • Increased roster size of up to 13 players including one “traveling reserve player”
  • Limiting qualifying events in any geographic/competitive region to between two and four events
  • More flexible seeding among geographic/competitive regions
  • An event certification process to be administered by USA Rugby’s 7s working group

But perhaps the biggest change announced in the press release is the creation of “Open Qualifiers” for the men’s USA Rugby National Club 7s Championship. Two events, held in Eastern and Western parts of the country, will serve to identify two wild card teams as the winners will automatically qualify for the USA Rugby National Club 7s Championship. How to follow Lakefront 7s on Instagram, YouTube and other platforms

how to follow Lakefront 7s

One of the key factors that affects the success of a large event like the Lakefront 7s is how well we communicate with the participants including  players, spectators and volunteers. Thus, it’s important for all participants to follow Lakefront 7s on Instagram, YouTube, and other communication channels/platforms to remain informed on schedules, kick-off times, and other important event details and news.

So rather than have you chasing us for news and updates, we recommend that you follow us the easy way using the platform(s) of your choice:

Lakefront 7s team entry fee can be spread over 4 payments

fiji commemorative 7 dollar rugby 7s note

In our annual satisfaction survey, respondents told us that one of the barriers to registering early for the Lakefront 7s rugby tournament was coming up with a lump-sum payment before all the brackets had filled up. To help with this problem, this year we’re making payment of the Lakefront 7s team entry fee more flexible by offering an installment plan.

The installment plan splits the team registration fee into 4 equal parts. The first payment is charged when you purchase a ticket for your team with a debit or credit card. The final three payments are then processed (using the same card) on April 1st, May 1st, and June 1st. (more…)
