Lions capture top-spot at the Firehouse 7s

Yesterday the Chicago Lions defeated Youngbloodz 31-10 to take first place at Firehouse 7s, the first of four events in the 2012 Midwest Rugby Sevens Qualifier series.

Columbus took 3rd place with a 19-14 win over the Milwaukee Barbarians , the combined side of the Milwaukee Harlequins and Milwaukee RFC.

In another close contest, Cleveland defeated Western Michigan Universtity 14-12 to clinch the 5th spot while the Chicago Griffins defeated cross-town rivals Blaze 24-21.

The following Midwest Qualifier points* were awarded:

  • Lions, 16
  • Youngbloodz, 12
  • Columbus, 10
  • Milwaukee Barbarians, 9
  • Cleveland, 8
  • Western Michigan University, 7
  • Chicago Griffins, 6
  • Chicago Blaze, 5

* Qualifier points are awarded as follows: 1st place, 12 points; 2nd place, 8 points; 3rd place, 6 points; 4th place, 5 points; 5th place, 4 points; 6th place, 3 points; 7th place, 2 points; 8th place, 1 point. Additional points are also awarded for attendance. For each event, 4 points are awarded automatically when a team checks in/appears on-site. Teams that appear at all of the qualifier events will receive an additional 4 points.
