Highlights of the 2018 Lakefront 7s.
Following their rugby festival, the Lakefront 7s has donated nearly 1 tonne of non-perishable food items such as peanut butter and dried noodles to the Hunger Task Force, a Milwaukee-based non-profit and Wisconsin’s leading anti-hunger organization.
“Nine hundred and fifty-five pounds is a record for us. Although we narrowly missed our 1000-pound goal, we collected 44% more food than last year!”, said food drive coordinator Kurt Kinderfather.
This is the third year the Lakefront 7s has coordinated a food-drive to coincide with their rugby festival — the largest summer-rugby event in North America. In 2017, 665 pounds was collected. The 1000-pound goal for 2018 was based on increased participation of corporate sponsors as well as allowing event attendees to use peanut butter to pay for parking. (more…)

In an effort to simplify scoring and speed up decisions on team advancement from pool play to the knockout rounds, we have simplified the tie-breaker system.
Per our existing competition format and rules, teams in a Division (e.g. High School Boys) are ranked based on the results of their matches in the Seeding Round (i.e. pool play). Typically, the top four teams advance to the Knockout Round (playoffs). In this format, it’s common for two or more teams to be tied for one of these top four seeds.
Since seeding affects the semi-final matchups, we will use the following simplified tie-break system:
- Most Games Won
- Head to head
- Points scored
- Points differential
- Coin Toss
Every year we get calls and emails from folks looking to play for a team at the Lakefront 7s. Teams also contact us looking for a few extra players.
To help players and teams connect, we created a public discussion group on Facebook.
Feel free discuss the event schedule, venue, rules, checking, and recruit for or find a team.
Or maybe you want to discuss the Eagles 7s team or arrange a trip to the Vegas 7s. Any topic related to rugby 7s is on the table but please no promotional or political posts. And of course, be nice!

This new system has great potential for keeping the Lakefront 7s on-schedule, improving communications with coaches and players, and archiving results from year to year. However, we are rolling out this system cautiously. Thus, the scoring tent will be the sole and authoritative location for all kick-off times, results, and advancement to the knock-out rounds. On June 30, the Lakefront 7s is holding it’s third annual food drive to benefit the Hunger Task Force.
Having raised over 600 pounds of food in 2017, the Lakefront 7s has raised it’s target to 1000 pounds for 2018.
To reach this goal, the Lakefront 7s has expanded it’s reach by recruiting new corporate partners such as the Orthopaedic Hospital of Wisconsin (Glendale), Team Rehab (Wauwatosa), Reich Tool and Die (Menomonee Falls), and Okinawan Martial Arts (Lannon).
Returning corporate partners include CH Hansen and Athletico (Milwaukee).
The Lakefront 7s will also be collecting food at their June 30th event at Veterans Park in Milwaukee. Athletes and other participants are encouraged to drop off their donations at the check-in table.
However, items in glass containers are NOT preferred.
We have lots of local sevens news to report this week including tournament results, an update on tag rugby, and a look ahead to this weekend’s events. (more…)
The 2018 High School Boys bracket filled a few days ago with 12 teams.
However, 3 additional teams have signed up for an expansion bracket. The catch is that we can only add teams in sets of 4. So we are looking for one more High School Boys team.
If your team is still considering attending, please register for the Expansion Bracket so the existing 3 teams that registered can get a great day of rugby.
As always, additions to the bracket are on first come, first served basis.
