Just picture it — a gorgeous summer day by the lake with Johnsonville brats, beverages, and a park full of your friends playing rugby. For most players and fans, the Lakefront 7s Rugby Tournament and Festival is the ideal way to spend a Saturday. But since we sell out every year, we always have to turn away teams that did not register early for the Lakefront 7s.
There is no worse feeling than being left out, and that’s especially true for the Lakefront 7s which is unique in many ways compared other sevens events. So here are the top 5 reasons to register early for the Lakefront 7s.
5. Better participation
By setting your summer schedule early, you’re sure to maximize participation of your team mates. From coordinating vacation time to competing for limited roster spots, the earlier you register your team the better your numbers will be at the event and even at practice.
4. Free advertising for your team/club
When a team registers for the Lakefront 7s, they are added to the participating team list. In addition, we share the registration through our social media channels and tag the club’s page/profile accordingly. This exposure will let team fans as well as potential players know about the club and provide opportunities for recruiting and expanding the reach of your network by gaining more followers.
3. More time to collect fees and easier ways to pay
Most clubs that don’t register early for the Lakefront 7s tell us that collecting the costs from participants is one of the major reasons for the delay. And that’s totally understandable — no one wants to be left holding the bill. But wether it’s the club bank account or a team member paying in advance, registering early is ALWAYS a better financial decision because:
- With our payment plan — which may be used through February 28 — you can split the registration fee over 4 payments.
- Registering early gives you more time to collect fees from your teammates.
- Our refund policy lets you cancel your registration any time before June 1st in any given year. It’s always better to reserve your spot early and use the refund policy as a last resort to recover costs if you cannot get players to commit and pay their share of the entry fee.
2. Social brackets fill up early
With the festival atmosphere at the Lakefront 7s, it’s not surprising that the Men’s and Women’s Social brackets fill up quickly. And in any given year, the teams that miss out on the Lakefront 7s are on the wait list for a cancellation in one of the Social brackets. With this in mind, most teams will want to register early simply to guarantee their competition level.
In addition, teams may also have a choice of kick-off time. For example, the Men’s Social bracket is so large, we often split it in half and run one in the morning and the other in the afternoon. Preferred kick-off times can can easily be accommodated when a team enters early. This is nearly impossible for teams that register late.
1. Have more fun
There’s no faster way to ruin a great day of rugby than to be worrying about money, scrambling to get players, and competing in a bracket you would rather not be in. In contrast, when you are organized and plan well in advance you will be more relaxed and have a lot more fun at your event. So be sure to register early for the Lakefront 7s.
